Sustainable Skincare Is How We Roll

Sustainable Skincare Is How We Roll

Haven’t we all been moved-beyond-words by Sir David Attenborough’s breath-taking footage of our planet in recent years? We knew right from the outset that we have a responsibility to ensure sustainability is one of our greatest considerations when it came to founding +guapa skincare and forming our manufacturing process. So, keep reading to find out what we’ve done so far and our future sustainability plans.

We’ll start with the big P word. Yes, our Satin-Soft Hand Cleansers are provided in plastic bottles. As a business starting from scratch, it has been close to impossible to get around this one, with so many other materials inadequate for its use or inaccessible to us. So, we started by ensuring our bottles were made from PET which is the most widely recycled and easy to recycle plastic in the world.

You might be wondering why we didn’t use glass? Well, your Satin-Soft Hand Cleanser will likely be kept in your handbag and is designed to be used several times a day, on-the-go, while you’re multitasking and quite frankly, glass just seemed to risky. The chances of it slipping from your hand while you juggle your phone, wallet and keys and smashing on the floor seemed reasonably high. Let’s be honest, that would be quite embarrassing, not to mention dangerous!

So, what about future +guapa? Our main area of interest at present is in ocean-recycled plastic. We are all aware that tonnes and tonnes of non-recycled plastic ends up in landfills and the oceans. Our idea is to re-use this plastic for our bottles, which can then be recycled again and again. We’re a small company but with big aspirations and we hope that with the support of everyone who loves what we do, we will be able to embark on this venture and have ocean-recycled plastic bottles ready for you before you know it!

Lastly, an important mention about the packaging we use! Everything else we use is paper or cardboard and is naturally 100% recyclable. In fact, even the tape that we use to close our boxes is made from a gummed craft paper which is biodegradable, repulpable and recyclable! You can simply leave the tape on the box once you’ve opened it and throw it into the recycling bin with other paper recyclables. Easy peasy!
