Natural Carrier Oils – The Breakdown
You’ve probably heard already about natural plant based oils as they are becoming increasingly popular for their all-round health benefits. Well, we were certain from the beginning that they would add a new level of skin care to our hand sanitising product and that we wanted them to be a key part of our formulas. The tough part was deciding which ones with so many to choose from! So, as part of our extensive formulation process, we researched and tested first-hand various plant based carrier oils and finally came up with a list of our favourites, which contain the very best skincare properties as part of our unique formula for our Satin-Soft Hand Cleansers.

Hydration:
One of our first concerns was hydration and we wanted something that would combat the inherent drying effect of alcohol. We quickly discovered both Acai berry and Baobab oils, which do just that. Both of these oils are highly penetrating and very easily absorbed into the skin, which means your skin reaps from its benefits almost immediately. Baobab is abundant with vitamin A, D, E & F as well as Omega 3, 6 & 9 fatty acids and antioxidants! Acai contains minerals such as calcium, potassium, phosphorus, Omega 3, 6 & 9 essential fatty acids, vitamins B1, B2, B3 E and C as well as essential amino acids. It is also rich in powerful antioxidants such as anthocyanins and phenols – so there’s really no denying it is just all round goodness from these two!
Environmental Stress:
Another important factor for us was combatting every day stresses such as UV light pollution and bad air quality in busy cities. We use our hands for pretty much everything we do and they are constantly exposed to these types of environmental factors. So, for this we settled on Watermelon Oil. Why? It contains a wonderfully powerful antioxidant called Beta-carotene, which converts into Vitamin A. Beta-carotene reduces the oxygen damage that is caused by every day environmental stress and as a result, imparts a healthy natural glow to your skin. Sounds great, right?
Anti-aging:
Anti-aging has to be a prime factor for pretty much everyone, sí? We thought so, and for this reason we put our heads together and researched some of the oils that are most associated with having anti-aging properties. Finally, we chose Camelia Tea Oil for its key ingredient, squalene. Sadly, levels of squalene in our own skin decrease naturally with age, causing dry skin and the dreaded wrinkles. By incorporating Camelia Tea Oil in our formula we are ensuring our skin is replenished with squalene, which is a great way of keeping your skin young and supple. Yay!
Sensitivity:
Lastly, do you suffer from sensitive skin? Well, we both do! For this reason, we thought it was important to include an oil that has restorative, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, and Rosehip Oil jumped stood right out! It is actually well known for treating a number of skin conditions as well as soothing and reducing the effect of burns, scars and wrinkles.
